We are learning 'Thanksgiving Day' by Leanne Guenther. The Poetry Recitation will be on November, 20th. We have had very little time to practice in class, so please practice at home.

We will be taking a quiz on Tuesday on the chapters we have read thus far. To prepare, we will be playing a game of bingo on Monday.

I hope you are enjoying the Fables we have been learning.
Next week will be our last Fable, “The Goose That Laid the Golden Egg.”
On Friday, we will be creating an egg craft.
Here are the items you will need:
Black Construction paper
Tissue Paper
Glue
Scissors
After our Fables are completed, we will be reviewing Owl and Home!
I am super excited to explore this book in more detail.
Math
This week in math our scholars will wrap up our unit on numbers to 20 and take a quiz and cumulative test on Units 1-6. Our team encourages all our students to continue memorizing their math facts from 1-20 for speed and accuracy when completing math problems. We begin our unit on common shapes whereby the scholars will learn to recognize and name the four basic shapes: circle, triangle, rectangle and square. We will be using 2- and 3-dimensional shapes to identify their attributes such as size, shape, color and faces of these objects and group them according to their attributes. Students will be guided to deduce and describe salient features such as the number of corners and sides of the four basic shapes. The students will learn to form patterns to help identify the attributes of the shapes to form the pattern and manner in which the shapes are repeated in the pattern. By the end of the unit the scholars will have achieved knowledge of the features of the basic shapes which will help them learn how to fit together pieces to form required shapes. In January, our first grade scholars will be creating a 3-dimensional object with basic shapes for their scholar’s special project. More information to come!
