Announcements for December, 11th 2020

Literature
Next week we will read “Tear-Water Tea.” We will be finishing the end of the book in January 2021. Please be sure your scholar has the book Sam the Minute Man by mid-January.
Poetry
Everyone is enjoying our poem, "There Once Was a Puffin" by Florence Page Jacques. Keep practicing at home. The recitation will be on January 14th, 2021.

History
We will begin our unit on “Three World Religions”.  Please find a document in your child’s folder or Google Classroom with more information.

Science
In science, we will continue our unit in Sun, Moon and Stars, with the moon.  We will discuss further by naming the phases of the moon.

Math
The first-grade math scholars worked diligently this past week learning about length and weight. This next week they will learn about capacity. The first-graders will be introduced to the concept of capacity through activities comparing the amount of water needed to fill containers of different sizes. They will learn that more water is needed to fill a bigger container to demonstrate that it has a greater capacity. The scholars will learn to estimate and measure the capacity of containers, like 1 liter bottles using smaller containers, like cups. The smaller containers will be the non-standardized units of capacity for measuring capacity. Parents, after next week first-grade will have completed their 1A Singapore Workbook and Textbook. The students will begin the 1B Singapore Workbook and Textbook upon their return from winter break. Continue to help your scholars learn their math facts through 20.
Thank you!

Announcements
Please continue to send your scholar everyday with a water bottle from home.

Our first-grade scholars will begin to write their first and last names on their school work beginning the second semester in the latter part of January. Please begin to teach them how to spell their last name beginning with a capital letter 😊.

Most of the first-graders are able to tie their own shoes. Please assist them learning to tie their own shoes by second semester. Thank you!
